The high school hosted an accreditation visit on March 12th.  We had ten people in the building who were associated with AdvanceEd, the accrediting agency that has oversight for accrediting schools in most of the states in the US and many schools around the world.  The visit was the culmination of all of our preparation in providing information about every facet of the high school.  Of course the goal and the expectation is that the high school retains it status as a fully accredited Oregon school.  Many parents completed the fall online survey as a way of providing feedback about the school and it's programs.  The visit went well and we are expecting a full report from the agency in the next month.  We will share the outcome of the report in the next couple of months.  Thank you to those of you who contributed to this important process.

Students in grades 8-11 will begin the scheduling process for next school year on April 9th.  Students will have a week to get their schedules submitted and we will provide reminders to those who fail to meet that deadline.  In the end, if a schedule is not submitted by the due date we will contact the student during the school day and meet with them to have them complete a schedule.  If we can not meet with them, we will complete a schedule for them.  It is imperative that we have all students scheduled into classes by May 1st.  We are then able to adjust class sizes and look at creating or deleting sections to maximize our resources before students and staff leave for summer break.

Spring sports continue thru May and we hope for a warm and dry spring.

The weather is getting a bit nicer and the days are getting a little longer.  Spring is in the air now.  We are seeing the number of student absences increase.  A reminder to parents regarding our attendance procedures.  We make automated calls to parents twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon.  Parents receive a call if their student was absent and unexcused during either their first or third classes of the day.  We call the number that is on the student's registration form.  If the student is not excused for their absence, we will assign them after school detention, one hour in length, on either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Parents can help us by making sure that they call in or send a note to excuse their student for all excused absences.  Parents have 24 hours to excuse an absence.  If we recieve no call or note, we will assign detention.  Again, we believe that if students attend regularly, they will be successful.  Thanks in advance for your assistance in clearing up absences for your student.

Progress reports will be mailed out this week.  In the progress reports will be a letter outlining some new policy changes regarding academic requirements for AP classes, Valedictorian/Salutatorian designation and the Honors Diploma.  Please take a look at this infomation and feel free to contact me regarding any questions.

Spring sports are off an running, hope the weather cooperates!

Congratulations to the girls basketball team as they defeated the Philomath girls last Saturday night.  The next step for the girls is to move on in the state competition.  They will play Wednesday March 6th at 6:30 PM at Gill Coliseum on the campus of Oregon State University.  Good luck to the girls team!

It is a grade day Friday March 8th so there will not be any school on that day.  Progress reports will be mailed home starting the week of March 11th.  In the progress reports will be a letter  to parents explaining some of the academic changes that we have been discussing for the better part of this school year.  The changes are significant.  Please take a moment to review them and if you have questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at the high school.

Spring and spring break is just around the corner.  Hoping for the sun and warmer temperatures as we head toward the warmer sunnier months of the year...
